What is a ‘Kodak moment’?
Seventy-eight years ago, I was born in Rochester, New York. Back then even before I was born, Rochester’s primary industry was KODAK. If you had a camera, it was probably a Kodak camera.
Dad worked for Kodak. Many folks who lived in Rochester or the surrounding area were employed by Kodak.
Everyone took pictures and the term “Kodak moment” was coined. It meant that special photo that happens only once… like the baby’s first tottery step.
Well, yesterday I missed my Kodak moment.
(however, maybe all might not be lost). I’m still kicking myself for being such an idiot. Here’s what happened.
A couple of days previously, I wrote: “What is your name?”
It was a simple thing. A staff member of my food doctor had complimented my blog writing. I was very pleased hearing someone enjoyed my writing. I walked away in a euphoric mood, practically skipping back to my car.
Once I calmed down, I realized I didn’t know her name. I decided to take Bernie and Chris to meet her. I would find out her name.
It was shortly after two Tuesday afternoons when we walked through the office door. The waiting room was full of people. Some were sitting in chairs while others were looking at the shoe display. One couple was in the process of ordering a special pair of shoes.
Although not a shoe store, their medical specialties include my situation: Diabetic feet and wound care. Thus, shoes and appropriate foot supplies are displayed.
Bernie and Chris were calm and interested in all the different new smells and people.
I wait for her to finish with the couple interested in buying shoes. She hadn’t noticed me… or anyone else. That’s one of the things I like about my doctor and her staff. They are true professionals. They pay strict attention to their clients.
Finally, when the couple left the window, I stepped up. She was surprised to see me. She hadn’t read today’s blog. I didn’t have an appointment that day. About that time, she spotted Bernie and Chris, and her face lit up.
She said, “Wait, I have to come out and meet Bernie and Chris.” She had been reading about them but never met them.
She immediately went to Bernie and Chris and made all kinds of happy sounds as she stroked both of them. She went over to a couch, and they followed her.
I was caught up at the moment, and just watched and enjoyed her joy.
I never even thought about capturing that wonderful minute.
Driving home, I realized I had missed the perfect opportunity to capture a Kodak moment.
However, although a day late… she will be there next Tuesday. After our Tuesday Therapy Dog visit we will show up, and this time I will have the camera ready.
At least that’s the plan.
